Ronya Galka Photography
From her native Germany, Ronya Galka moved to London in 1994 and it is there that she developed a love for urban photography and honed her skills in extracting the extraordinary from life around her.
Frequently managing to blend the worlds of documentary and fine art photography, Ronya mainly considers herself a Street Photographer since that is where most of her photographs originate: in the random chaos of the street, in the wonderfully impulsive weirdness of daily life.
Her intimate images of urban life are often intriguing and emotive, incorporating a degree of ambiguity aimed to trigger thoughts and emotions in the viewer. Ronya’s work has been displayed at London’s esteemed Pall Mall Gallery as well as well as having been chosen to feature in Saatchi’s ‘100 Most Commended Images’ at the SWPA exhibition in Cannes. In 2008 her work earned her a nomination as Best Amateur Photographer at Sony’s World Photography Awards.
Since 2008, Ronya has been a contributing member of the international street photography collective 'Seconds 2 Real'.
"The wonderful thing about Street Photography is that every photo is a 'Limited Edition'. One shot is all you get: no rehearsals, no re-takes. The street is your blank canvas and the props you're working with are the unpredictable movements of complete strangers.
My main interest lies in depicting ordinary gestures by ordinary people in ordinary situations - candid moments that present themselves amidst the hustle and bustle of busy city life.
For me, nothing beats the feeling of being in the right place at the right time and capturing the briefest of all insights into someone else's world which stays with me in the form of a photograph long after our paths have crossed..."
